Consumer & Family Advisory Committee
State Mental Health Reform charges the Local Management Entity (LME) with the responsibility of forming a committee of consumers and family members, known as the Consumer and Family Advisory Committee (CFAC). The intent of this committee is to broaden the involvement of consumers and families as partners with the LME in ways that are durable, sustainable, and above all, meaningful to the development of a comprehensive mental health system of services and supports.
Local CFACs are mandated by NC Statute § 122C-170, which states "Area authorities and county programs shall establish committees made up of consumers and family members to be known as Consumer and Family Advisory Committees (CFACs). A local CFAC shall be a self-governing and a self-directed organization that advises the area authority or county program in its catchment area on the planning and management of the local public mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services system."
The CenterPoint Consumer & Family Advisory Committee meets quarterly, with subgroups meeting in each county to more fully understand and address local community issues. If you have a question about CFAC, call CenterPoint at 336-714-9100, or email cfac@cfac.org
